The Tell Tale Signs You May Have Vertigo

Have you ever suddenly felt a pinning whirlwind sensation out of nowhere? Maybe accompanied by a headache or nausea.

You may have experienced vertigo.

Vertigo is defined as a sensation of whirling, loss of balance, which can be associated with looking down, sitting up too quickly, or associated with diseases within the inner ear. Vertigo can be so extreme you may feel as if the world is spinning around you.

Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV for short)

occurs when small particles clump together within the inner ear. The job of the inner ear is to send signals to the brain of where you head and body is, relative to space and gravity. If small clumps form together within the inner ear canal, they can interference with how the brain perceives your sense of balance. This is the most common form of vertigo.

Vestibular Neuritis, also known as Labyrinthitis

a disease within the inner ear due to an infection. The infection leads to inflammation within the inner ear and vestibular nerve, which can interfere with your sense of balance.

Meniere’s Disease

is a disease of the inner ear caused by build up of fluid or pressure within the ear that can trigger bouts of vertigo or dizziness. It is thought that above average amounts of salt in the diet can trigger these episodes if a person has Meniere’s.

Please look out for these key signs which may mean you have vertigo:

  • Spinning, swaying, whirling
  • Being pulled to one direction
  • Having difficulty focusing your eyes, or other vision issues
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Headaches
  • Ringing in the ears or other hearing issues
  • Sweating or panting

Though head or neck injuries can potentially lead to vertigo, westernized medicine does not have an answer or solution to random occurrences of vertigo, in fact, they downright say there is zero cure for the 69 million Americans that suffer from vertigo daily.

However, at The Specific Chiropractic Centers, we have found not only relief for our patients who experience vertigo, but a long-lasting solution to prevent it from recurring.

The inner workings of the ear, the vestibular nerve, as well as the centers of the brain that receive signals from these areas are very complicated and very sensitive. However, other anatomical regions of the body can influence these areas.

The upper cervical anatomy, the top two vertebrae in the spine, just underneath the skull, have a major influence on the soft tissues, joints, ligaments, and inner workings of the ear. What we have found, is that if a misalignment, or reduction of proper and normal joint motion exists between these top two bones, it may interfere with the normal and routine workings of the inner ear, leading to a disruption of balance, nausea, headaches, and vertigo.

The Specific Chiropractic Centers offers hope for those suffering from vertigo! In our offices, we work with the unique relationship between the nervous system and the top two vertebrae of the spine, in the upper neck region (upper cervical). What we have found is that if there is a misalignment or displacement of those top two vertebrae, from their normal anatomical position, it can affect the nervous system’s function, especially the portions of the nervous system that control the inner ear and the body’s balance and positioning. If these areas are affected by dysfunction within the nervous system, vertigo or symptoms associated with vertigo may be triggered.

Upper Cervical Chiropractic care has been a research-proven method to offer those with vertigo long term results and relief². We have had excellent success with many individuals suffering from vertigo get their lives back and stop their worlds from spinning.
