THE FEAR OF LETTING GO
I want to share something that’s been on my heart lately.
The topic of letting go.
The idea of letting go or change, can be daunting and scary. Whether you’re letting go of personal items or even a relationship, we always find ourselves frozen in a place of fear.
The fear of letting go is because we feel like we are letting go a piece of ourselves. Isn’t that how you’ve felt?
I personally see this in a lot at the patients at The Specific. Women that seek healing and resolution here, have been dealing with the most incredible chronic pain conditions and emotional traumas that you can imagine for decades. We are only human, and sometimes the human thing to do is to identify ourselves with the experiences of health concerns, no matter how negative, because it’s who we’ve become.
The ultimate breaking point that causes these women to finally walk through the doors of The Specific, is when their health condition has finally broken them down to the point where they feel like they are not in the driver’s seat of their own life. They are so sick of the migraines, fibromyalgia, lupus, rheumatoid, RSD, hormonal challenges, psoriatic, osteoarthritis, destroying their live that they are ready for change! But I have found that at times, there can be an initial hesitation because no matter how desperate these women are for relief and healing of their current health condition, they are afraid of who they will be when they are no longer suffering.
They have to let it go.
Imagine yourself planning one of your bucket list adventures. You’re having so much fun planning it, packing, and getting there! Until you arrive at that very moment you have to descend underwater for a scuba dive you’ve never done, or jump out a plan to skydive, or maybe it’s traveling on an airplane. It’s all so new to you. And you have to let go everything up to that point and just do it.
And you and I both know what happens when you overcome the fear and finally let yourself go. You have the time of your life! You experience something new and exciting! Even if it is what you used to be able to do, or your new lifestyle of your dreams because of your improved health.
